The Primary Years Programme (PYP)
At AIA, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is where the journey begins. From Kindergarten to Year 6, our students are supported to become curious thinkers, caring classmates, and confident learners—anchored in Islamic values and prepared for the world around them.
As an authorised IB World School, AIA delivers the PYP through a unique Islamic lens, blending NSW curriculum standards with the IB framework to ensure all students learn at high levels while developing a strong moral foundation.

The IB Primary Years Programme is a globally recognised framework that:

- Fosters international-mindedness and personal growth
- Develops the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually
At AIA, the PYP is delivered within an Islamic context, creating a unique environment where students explore, question, and connect their learning to their faith and real-world issues.

Our curriculum combines:
- English, Mathematics, Science and Technology
- Humanities (History and Geography)
- Creative Arts
- Health and Physical Education
- Arabic and Islamic Studies
- Digital Technologies
All learning is integrated around Units of Inquiry—interdisciplinary themes that build understanding across subject areas.
In Kindergarten to Year 2, students also participate in the Initialit Literacy Program, with targeted support through MiniLit.
Islamic Values at the Core
Students develop character through a values-rich program aligned with Islamic teachings. Kindness, honesty, responsibility, and respect are lived values in our classrooms.
Our students grow spiritually alongside academic learning through:
- Daily du’aa and adhkar
- Qur’an memorisation and tajweed
- Islamic Studies including Hadith, Aqeedah, Ibadah, Seerah
- Values-based learning such as patience, kindness, and community service
- Weekly Halaqat and morning Qur’an classes
- Special spiritual milestones like the Year 2 Salah Starter Program
Focus on the Whole Child
From social-emotional wellbeing to creativity and spiritual development, our PYP supports every aspect of a child’s growth.
We use a whole-child approach that supports students academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Our MERIT system, wellbeing framework, and Islamic character education help students:
- Celebrate effort and progress
- Build strong relationships
- Resolve conflict through restorative practices
- Develop independence, responsibility, and a growth mindset
An Inclusive Environment
Every child is known and supported. We use a variety of strategies to meet different learning needs, and offer programs for learning support and enrichment.
We ensure all learners are supported through:
- Individualised Learning Plans (ILPs)
- Literacy and numeracy intervention programs (e.g. Initialit, MiniLit, MacqLit, CARS/STARS)
- In-class teacher aide support
- Academic enrichment opportunities such as Robotics, Think Tank, Debating, and Writing Competitions
Year 6: The PYP Exhibition
In their final year of the PYP, all Year 6 students participate in the PYP Exhibition—a powerful, student-led inquiry that showcases their growth as learners and citizens.
Students work collaboratively to:
- Investigate a global or community issue
- Apply their learning across multiple subjects
- Present findings creatively to peers, parents, and staff
- Reflect on their identity, responsibility, and contribution to the world
The Exhibition is a culmination of everything they’ve learned in the PYP—and a proud celebration of their readiness to transition to the MYP.
Preparing for High School
As students complete Year 6, they transition from the PYP into the Middle Years Programme (MYP)—the next stage in the IB continuum. This shift is supported through leadership opportunities, digital integration, and growing academic independence.
