What do students learn?
Students study six subjects, one from each subject group, plus three core components that are unique to the IB.
Students take 3 subjects at Higher Level (HL) and 3 at Standard Level (SL).

Core Components
These three elements set the IBDP apart and are embedded throughout the two years:
Students explore how we know what we know—developing critical thinking, ethics, and reflection.
An independent 4,000-word research paper on a subject of the student’s choice, fostering academic writing and inquiry.
Students engage in real-world experiences that challenge them to grow creatively, physically, and ethically. CAS aligns with Islamic principles of service and self-development.
Approaches to Learning
Students develop essential skills through five key Approaches to Learning (ATL):
- Time management and independence
- Research, writing, and referencing skills
- Presentation and oral communication confidence
- Global awareness and intercultural understanding
- Ethical reasoning and personal reflection
IB results are not scaled or ranked against others, making it a more consistent pathway.
HSC marks are influenced by cohort performance and scaling rules, which can benefit or disadvantage depending on subject choices and school performance.
